Clinical Cases Aesthetic and Functional Dentistry

Functional and Aesthetic Dentistry is dedicated to the treatment and restoration of decayed or fractured teeth and to changes in shape and color, restoring the health, function, and aesthetic appearance of your dentition.

After a careful clinical diagnosis with the aid of digital radiographs and an intraoral video camera, it is possible to understand in detail the situation of your teeth and gums.

The treatment of dental caries allows the recovery of health and tooth structure's natural aspect when detected at an early stage.
If dental caries are not detected and treated within the early stage, the tooth nerve can be damaged, and it’s usually necessary to perform a root canal treatment before the tooth restoration. Tooth decay affects health, aesthetics, and function and can lead to the loss of teeth when left untreated.

Description

Dental restorations are indicated in the following situations:

  • presence of dental caries
  • replacement of old or leaking restorations
  • trauma and dental fractures
  • color changes
  • congenital dental malformations

Restorations prevent tooth loss and restore the health and natural appearance. The use of aesthetic materials that reproduce the color and shape of your teeth is usually applied. Due to their aesthetic and functional characteristics, we use composite resins and ceramic materials.

At the António Carracho Institute, we work with the best materials and reference products, which allow restorations adapted to your needs and with great longevity.

Step by Step

  1. Caries Removal: The removal of dental caries is performed under anesthesia, without any discomfort.
  2. Aesthetic and Functional Restoration: after decay is removed, the tooth is prepared to receive the restorative material. A composite resin is applied - the color of the material is appropriate for each tooth so that there are no aesthetic differences between the tooth and the restorative material. This material makes it possible to recover the masticatory function of the tooth and maintain its resistance. In cases of large restorations, indirect ceramic restorations are indicated.
  3. Occlusal and polishing adjustments: at the end of the appointment, adjustments are made to the contacts between the natural teeth and restoration, then finishing and polishing are performed. In this way, we guarantee the best sealing and adaptation between the restoration and your tooth.
